Lauren Berkery
Valita Durkin earned her Gold Award after completing the Northern Bobwhite Project at Sharpe Reservation. This project included: hatching, raising and releasing several clutches of bird; habitat restoration at the Nature Preserve; and participating in the New York State Outdoor Education Association’s Fall Conference were she presented her project and gave a tour of the preserve. Valita continues to raise birds and release them at Sharpe Reservation. Her goal is to take this New York threatened species and facilitate it becoming a successful breeding population. Gold Award Recipient: 2010

Shivani Patel
Brittany Ransbottom earned her Gold Award by hosting a Girl’s in Engineering Event at West Point. The girls were able to play with robots, create bridges, and listen to women engineers tell about oportunities in the field. Gold Award Recipient: 2008
Silver
Valita Durkin, Alyssa T, Elizabeth W, and Jennifer O earned their Silver Award after completing a Sarah Wells Camporee for the Cornwall Girl Scouts. Their project included: creating a video about Sarah Wells life; activities to fulfill the Sarah Wells Badges for Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes; an interpretive hike up Storm King; a campfire with songs and folklore; and a descendant of Sarah Wells guest speaker. The girls felt that with the Council changing the name from Sarah Wells to Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson needed to be placed in historical perspective. Silver Award Recipients: 2007
